Nodding Onion/Lady’s Leek (Allium cernuum)

Edible perennial allium growing to 50cm/20in tall and forming a slowly spreading clump to about 20-30cm/8-12in wide.  Does well in most soils but prefers moist, well-drained conditions and a sunny position.  Beautiful delicate heads of pink flowers in summer – will self-seed readily.

Leaves and flowers are edible both raw and cooked throughout the growing season and have a pleasant oniony flavour – but this plant would be a great addition to any garden if only for its prettiness alone.
