Marsh Mallow (Althaea officinalis)

A tall, hardy perennial reaching over 1m/3ft high with small pale pink flowers that bloom in late summer. Prefers light, damp soil.

Edible flowers can be added to salads.

Medicinally, decoction of the root of the Marsh Mallow is used to ease coughs and bronchitis due to it containing large amounts of mucilage, creating a soothing affect.

The leaves or roots, freshly crushed, can be used to help reduce inflammation.
